چکیده

in order to study, the effects of drought stress on germination and seedling growth of chickpea genotypes, experiments were carried out on two susceptible genotypes (mcc68, mcc448) and two resistant genotypes (mcc392, mcc877). in the first experiment the seeds were sown under different levels of drought stress (0,-0.4,-0.8,-1.2mpa) in 25◦c at the growth chamber with 4 replication. the results showed that percentage of germination, germination rate, radicle and plumela length and dry weight of shoot and root decreased by increasing levels of drought stress. mcc392 and mcc68 genotypes had the highest percentage of germination, germination rate, length and dry weight of shoot and root in drought stress, but mcc877 had the lowest percentage of germination and germination rate. mcc877 genotype showed higher decrease in length and dry weight of shoot and root than mcc448 genotype. in the second experiment morphological parameters were investigated in control (75% fc) and drought stress (25% fc) conditions. drought stress decreased length and dry weight of shoot and root in mcc877 and mcc448 genotypes compared to mcc392 and mcc68 genotypes. these result showed that mcc392 and mcc68 genotypes were the best genotypes under simulated drought condition and it may be due to the fact that these genotypes are resistant to drought stress.

Effect of drought-induced stress by PEG6000 on physiological and morphological traits of chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) seed germination in order to assortment of drought tolerant cultivars

In this study, the reaction of germination and plantlet growth different chickpea cultivars (Arman, Azad, Binalood and Hashem) in relation to osmotic stress due to polyethylene glycol solution (-2, -4, -6 and -8bar) and control (distilled water) using factorial design in completely randomized with four replications was evaluated. In this study, there was a significant difference between the dif...

GENETIC DIVERGENCE IN CHICKPEA (Cicer arietinum L.)

Genetic diversity of 27 chickpea genotypes was studied through Mahalanobis D and Principal Component analysis. The genotypes under study fall into five clusters. The cluster II contained the highest number of genotypes (11) and Cluster I contained the lowest. Cluster I produced the highest mean value for number of pods per plant. The inter cluster distances were much higher than the intra clust...

Changes in the Nodular Metabolism in Desi and Kabuli Genotypes of Chickpea (cicer Arietinum L.) under Salt Stress

Experiments were conducted to study the nodular metabolism, in order to draw comparisons between nitrogen fixation, carbon fixation and ammonia assimilation in nodule cytosol of desi (CSG 8962, DCP 92-3) and kabuli (CSG 9651, BG 267) genotypes of chickpea. Maximum acetylene reduction activity (ARA) was observed in CSG 9651 and minimum in DCP 92-3.The specific activity of ammonia assimilating en...

Study of seed germination and seedling growth of alfalfa genotypes (Medicago sativa L.) under drought tension conditions

In order to investigate the effect of drought tension on germination characteristics and seedling growth of 10 alfalfa genotypes, two separate experiments were carried out in vitro petri dish culture medium (seed testing) and potting (vegetative growth stage) as a factorial experiment in a completely randomized design with three replications in a specialized laboratory in Khuzestan University o...

Osmotic adjustment in chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) results in no yield benefit under terminal drought.

Variation in osmotic adjustment (OA) among chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) cultivars has been observed when exposed to terminal drought, but some studies suggest that this benefits yield while others suggest it does not benefit yield in water-limited environments. In the present study, parents differing in OA were crossed and a set of advanced breeding lines (ABLs) developed for yield testing. Th...

Root traits confer grain yield advantages under terminal drought in chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.)

Chickpea, the second most important legume crop, suffers major yield losses by terminal drought stress (DS). Stronger root system is known to enhance drought yields but this understanding remains controversial. To understand precisely the root traits contribution towards yield, 12 chickpea genotypes with well-known drought response were field evaluated under drought and optimal irrigation. Root...
